 INDIA ARIE SIZZLES AT 6TH ANNUAL EME AWARDS
COPS “INTERNATIONAL FRIEND OF REGGAE” HONOUR
EME Awards Chairman & Founder Richard 'Richie B' Burgess presents the International Friend of Reggae Honouree India Arie with her Award'.
India Arie was named this year’s International Friend of Reggae at the recently held 6th Annual Excellence in Music & Entertainment (EME) Awards 2010 staged at the Gardens at Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston.
The EME Organizers were honoured to have her presence, as this was her first appearance since winning her third Grammy on the Sunday before. Arie received her award after gracing the stage with Gramps Morgan. The two performed their duet, “Therapy”, which is featured on Morgan’s album, “2 Sides of My Heart”, which was named the 2010 EME Album of the Year. India Arie also performed her single “Ready For Love” and received great response from the audience.
Jamaicans were thrilled to see Arie, who is the first international artiste in this category who has appeared in person to receive the award. “I call myself an honorary member of the Morgan’s Family”, she stated during her acceptance speech. Describing herself as feeling “humble and excited”, she spoke warmly of her love for the Jamaican people, and of the beauty of the island she admired during her stay at the luxurious Strawberry Hill resort.
The organizers of the EME Awards congratulate all winners. Three artistes scooped up three awards each, Vybz Kartel DJ of the Year (Male); Recording Artiste of the Year; and Songwriter/Lyricist of the Year); Singer Jah Cure, Vocalist of the Year (Male), and his song “Call On Me” featuring Phyllisia, being awarded Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year; and Ding Dong, Best Original Dance Move of the Year; Song of the Year (Dancehall) – “Holiday” featuring Chevaun; and Collaboration of the Year (Dancehall).

Richard 'Richie B' Burgess, renowned radio personality and founder of the prestigious Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards, envisioned an authentic and dedicated awards ceremony for Jamaican music and entertainment, fashioned after the famed Grammy Awards, with grandeur and pageantry characteristic of such an awards ceremony. His vision has come to fruition.
A noted 'Market Leader' in this industry, Richie B has founded, hosted and produced many similar events which have garnered unwavering popularity and support, including charity events, where proceeds have been donated to address identified needs within various communities. The Buff Bay Police Station and his alma maters, Bybrook All Age School and Tichfield High School, are among the beneficiaries of his efforts.
Since its inception in 2005, as a small 'in studio' production, The EME Awards has also gained unwavering support and popularity, becoming a much larger and recognized event on Jamaica's entertainment calendar. Over 85% of the awardees were in attendance for the 2008 production, a first for any local awards production. This is a clear indication of the respect the industry has for this event, motivating us to continue to improve the product.
The EME Awards, a non-profit venture, is designed to recognise excellence within our music and entertainment industries.  Had she stuck to her guns and became a nurse, maybe the lucky staff and patients and a Florida hospital or doctor's office would be privy to the clear, powerful and heavenly voice of this week's interviewee. Well thank God that didn't happen! Etana took a leap of faith and pursued a career as an artist and hasent looked back since!!!!
She was born Shauna McKenzie in the hillside community of August Town situated in the South Eastern side of Jamaica. The only daughter of a fairly large family of boys, she attended school locally up until 1992 when she migrated to Miami Florida.
